Lëkundjet sizmike me magnitudë 6.8 ranë në ishullin e Mindanao-s, mëngjesin e kësaj të diele, rreth orës 2:12. Epiqendra ishte rreth 60 km në jug-perëndim të qytetit të Davao-s.
Tërmeti i fuqishëm ndodhi në një thellësi prej 28.2 km, sipas USGS.
Raportohet se nuk pati asnjë kërcënim për tsunami nga tërmeti në fjalë, që fillimisht u tha se ishte me magnitudë 6.9.
Videot e marra gjatë tërmetit u shpërndanë me shpejtësi në mediat sociale, raportohet se ka njerëz të plagosur dhe shumë ndërtesa të shkatërruara.
